
Edmund Lawrence Gerhard, 90, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Landmark Hospital in Athens, Ga.
Edmund was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Aug. 30, 1927, to the late Arthur Lawrence Gerhard and Hester Daisy Bachert.
Edmund was a World War II veteran and worked for Ford Motor Co. in Edison, N.J., for 30 years.
Edmund lived in Edison, N.J., and moved to North Lauderdale, Fla., before moving to Murphy in 2006.
He enjoyed bowling with the Golden Club Bowling League, going to American Legion Post 96 and being with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Sanko; brothers, Allen Arthur Gerhard and Norman Edwin Gerhard.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Diana Cannan and husband Larry of Murphy; daughter,
Carol Ann Fylypczuk of Weeki Wachee, Fla.; son, Laurence Edmond Gerhard and wife Robin of Spotswood, N.J.; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Edmund is of the Catholic faith and will be entombed next to his wife, Therea, in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in North Lauderdale, Fla.
There will be a service with family in North Lauderdale at a later date.
In 2017 Edmund got to enjoy going to Washington, D.C., that honored veterans through the Blue Ridge Honor Flight.
