Nicholas Stephen Baumgartner, 88, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at his home in the Peachtree community.
Nicholas Baumgartner was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Punta Gorda, Fla., to the late Harry Edward Baumgartner and Myrna Moore Miller Baumgartner.
Nick and his wife, Janice, moved from Fallbrook, Calif., to make Murphy their home for the past 16 years.
He was a U.S. Navy pilot and veteran, a Fire Captain for the Los Angeles City Fire Department for 23 years and retired as Chief of the Aptos Fire Department in California after 10 years of service.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice Baumgartner, on Oct. 1, 2018.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Lynn Workman; his son, Steve Baumgartner; his brother, Robert E. Hinkel; seven grandchildren, Scott, Brian, Cameron, Brandon, Layne, Gwen and Shannon; six plus one great-grandchildren, Iliana, Alexander, Lyra, Lars, Daphne, Alex and an expected great-granddaughter in the near future.
A private burial was held Friday, Oct. 5, in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Murphy.
Arrangements were entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
