Jack Rhodes

    Jack Joseph Rhodes, 92, of Murphy, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019.
    Mr. Rhodes was born Nov. 12, 1926. in Lake Charles, La., to Earl Rhodes and Vera Sue Jackson.  
    Jack served in the United States Marine Corps in the Fourth Marine Division. He was a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima.  
    After the military, he worked as an engineer for Stubbs Overbeck & Associates of Amarillo, Texas.
    Jack moved to Cherokee County in 1996 where he was very active in the community. He served in the Marine Corps League Cherokee Detachment No. 1011 and volunteered his time with Cherokee County Toys for Tots and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
    He spent a lifetime traveling, hunting, camping, and racing cars and motorcycles. He was a lover of all things nature and raised up several orphaned animals such as a skunk, owl, pig and his favorite, a wolf.  
    Jack is survived by a daughter, Beckie Pacetti of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; a son, Tommy Rhodes of Murphy; two grandchildren, Jedidiah Merritt of Destin, Fla., and Amanda Merritt of Canada; and a cousin, Ruth Marie Bauer of Kerrville, Texas.
    Jack will be missed by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving man who maintained a positive outlook on life.
    A memorial service is being planned by the Marine Corps League.
