Ruth Nelson Matheson, 92, of Andrews, went home to meet her God on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at her residence.

Ruth was an active participant in the Andrews community being a leader in Scouting. She was a member of Andrews United Methodist Church and president of the United Methodist Women. She had a green thumb and a special love for flowers.
Ruth’s life was marked by love, expressed both in words and deeds. She will be missed by all who came in contact with her.
She was the daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Nelson, and wife of the late James Neal Matheson, who died March 1, 2003, with over 50 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Paige Stevens.
Surviving are a daughter, Annaneal Matheson Stevens of Andrews; a son, James Fredrick Matheson of Washington, D.C.; a son-in-law, Mark William Skinner; two special caregivers, Betty Nicely and Robin Hogsed; and several nieces, nephews and relatives.

The family will receive friends from 2-2:50 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Andrews United Methodist Church prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Ruth Nelson Matheson to the Andrews Elementary School Library Book Fund, 205 Jean Christy Ave., Andrews, NC 28901.
