Donald Buford Pendergrass, 83, of “Slick Rock” in Marble, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at his
residence.
He was a native of “Slick Rock” in Marble, and son of the late John and Alice Nix Pendergrass.
Donald was a carpenter by trade and also had worked at Columbia Marble Co. He was also known for being a mechanic, plumber and electrician; basically, a jack of all trades.
Donald was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church of Murphy and an honorary member of Victory Baptist Church in Robbinsville.
He was a hard-working, generous, caring man who loved his family and went above measure to take care of his children and grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart. If he wasn’t using his hands to fix or build something for someone else, he was planting a garden or on his knees working in his flowers.
Donald liked to camp and had a passion for hunting and trout fishing, and loved crafting in his wood shop.
He lived a full life in 83 years with much of that time spent on others. He will be missed so much by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Jordan Pendergrass; one son, Bryan Pendergrass; great-grandson, Eli Freeman; two brothers, Bayle Pendergrass and Jim Pendergrass; and four sisters, Irene Moss, Clara Shields, Pauline Moss and Kathleen Trull.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Pendergrass Freeman of Marble; two sons, Brandon and Dusty Pendergrass, both of Marble; two grandsons, Joe and Alex Freeman of Andrews; two granddaughters, Windi Freeman Moore of Robbinsville and Breezlee Freeman of Marble; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howell Pendergrass of Marble; and one sister, Nina Young of Marble.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. The Revs. Darrin Self, Jeff Jordan and Tommy Messer officiated. Burial was in Lone Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Robbinsville. Pallbearers were Tony Hall, Johnny Pendergrass, George VanBuskirk, Joe Freeman, Alex Freeman and Steve Pendergrass. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Watson, Pete Watson, Lynn Pendergrass, Perry Jordan, David Palmer, Robert Shields, Terry Parker and David Moore.
The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.

Townson Rose Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
