Barbara “Joy” Beatty of Atlanta, Ga., and a former resident of Murphy, died Thursday, June 30, 2016.
She was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Miami, Fla., to the late Irene and Kendall Harris.
She was a graduate of Miami Edison High School Class of 1947. She worked at the First National Bank of Miami.
She married Gerald Beatty Sr. on May 30, 1953, and they had three children.
Barbara loved sewing, tap dancing, travel, entertaining, being involved in her church and spending time with friends and family.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; and her firstborn son, Jerry Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Ray) of Miami; and son, John (Cindy) and their children, Jill and Brandon of Duluth, Ga.; and Jerry Jr.’s widow, Elaine.
A celebration of her life will be planned for later in July.
She will be greatly missed.
