
The Rev. Gene Martin, 75, of Marble, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016, at his home.
Rev. Martin was born June 2, 1941, in Cherokee County to the late Buford Gene Martin and the late Dorthy Sells Martin.
Gene had served as an area pastor for close to 40 years, serving Bealtown Baptist Church, Little Glade Baptist Church and Canyon Road Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
He had worked as a truck driver with Gooch Trucking Co. and Southern Concrete, and also worked with Cochran Funeral Homes.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda Joyce Johnson Martin; daughter, Bernadette Wilcox and husband Nathan; daughter, Lisa Martin; son, Russell Eugene Martin and wife Andrea; daughter, Miranda Lyda and husband Sean; son, Kelly Martin; brother, Jimmy Sells; special aunt, Sue Hubbard and husband Jim; grandchildren, Autumn Teesateskee, Amanda Gitchell, Jacey Odom, Destiny Kephart, Beah Martin, Bryce Martin, Mathew Nicholson, Chase Martin, Dustin Kephart, Noah Martin, Brandon Kephart, Eli Martin, Daniel Allen, Easton Allen and Ashton Parker; and great-grandchildren, Somer and Isaac Teesateskee and Zayden Gitchell.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Little Brasstown Baptist with the Revs. Aud Brown, Hoyt Brown and Jimmy Rogers officiating. Music was provided by Joan Cabe. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mathew Nicholson, Chase Martin, Dustin Kephart, Noah Martin, Brandon Kephart and Eli Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Allen, Easton Allen, Ashton Parker, Morris Graves, Freddy Conley, Darren Garland, Cody Teesateskee, R.J. Githell, Andy Hilton, David Hall and Rob Lindsay.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
