Edna Burrell

    Edna Mae Burrell, 98, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center.
    She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County since her birth on March 17, 1918.
    Edna was a homemaker and member of Sunny Point Baptist Church.
    She was the daughter of the late Harve W. and Laura Thompson Johnson. She also was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert Wayne Burrell, who passed away March 20, 2015; her son, Larry Burrell; three daughters, Virginia Burrell Frady and twins Winona and Juanita Burrell; two sisters and four brothers.
    Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Wilkerson and Sue Burrell, both of Murphy; three sons, Johnnie Burrell and wife Katherine and David Burrell and wife Gail, all of Murphy, and Jackie Burrell and wife Trina of Hayesville; a sister, Lorene Berry of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Sunny Point Baptist Church with the Revs. Allen Harris and Kenny Corn officiating. The interment was in Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Earl, Bradley and Travis Burrell, Jeff Frady, Steve Beavers and Adam Dockery. Honorary pallbearer was Matthew Dockery.
    The family received friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Sunny Point Baptist Church prior to the service.
    The family requests memorials be made in memory of Edna Mae Burrell to Sunny Point Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Joel Harris, 2587 Sunny Point Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
