Sherry Diane Chitty, 73, of Murphy, passed away, Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at her residence.
She was a native of California. She had graduated from the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s degree, and graduated with highest distinction, Summa Cum Laude. Sherry had worked as an insurance claims administrator.
She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
Sherry enjoyed being a grandmother to her grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Chrystal Preckett Bresnin. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Dundas.
Surviving are her husband of 32 years, Jim Chitty; two daughters, Leticia Wetzel of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Delena Hawkins and husband Akim of Murphy; three sons, Thomas Dundas and wife Linda of Draper, Utah, Robert Dundas of Valdosta, Ga., and “Cap” Prince and wife Theresa of Woodland, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be “Cap” Prince, Akim Hawkins, Max O’Dell, Rex Davis, Jerome Dockery and Tom Coursey.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the service.
