Charles Chastain, 58, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Valley View Care Center in Andrews.
He was born in Cherokee County to Frankie Coleman Chastain and the late L.C. Chastain of Murphy.
Charles was a member of New Martins Creek Baptist Church. He loved fishing, woodcarving and doing small engine repair.
In addition to his father, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Chastain, and his brother-in-law, Tim Roberson.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Sean Chastain and wife Jessica of Raleigh; stepdaughter, Nanci Gandy of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Gerald Chastain and wife Wanda of Jackson, S.C., and Timothy Chastain and wife Michelle of Murphy; two sisters, Sandra Walls and husband Lewis of Hayesville, and Sharon Roberson of the Peachtree community; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at New Martins Creek Baptist Church in Murphy. The Rev. Paul Ray Morgan, Pastor Hoyt Brown and the Rev. Dennis Ashe officiated. Burial was in New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were cousins.
The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at New Martins Creek Baptist Church in Murphy.
