David Robert Gentles Jr. and to those close to him, he was “Uncle Bobby” or “Gentle Ben,” 64, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was the son of David Robert Gentles Sr. of Melbourne, Fla., and the late Margaret Ann Roberts Gentles.
David retired as an electrician for Cherokee County Schools and worked part time at Lowes.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed his grandkids and playing cards with them, fishing, working and his family.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gwendolen Peels; and brother, Rick Gentles, along with Rick’s infant daughter, Charise.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Gentles; son, Benjamin Gentles; grandchildren, Jase Peels, Karmdi Burke, Christopher, Hailey, Austin and Andrew Thompson; brother, Jimmy Gentles of Melbourne, Fla.; and sister, Rose Price of Palm Bay, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Greg Swain and L.B. Adams officiated. The family held a private graveside service.
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dave’s memory to Murphy High School Girls Varsity and Volleyball Programs, 234 High School Circle, Murphy, NC 28906.
