
Otis Howard Burdette, 75, of Crooked Creek Road, Young Harris, Ga., passed away peacefully at his home Monday, March 13, 2017, following a brief illness.
Mr. Burdette was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Young Harris, Ga., the son of the late Otis Howard Burdette II and Cecil Corn Burdette Kelley.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Otis enjoyed knifemaking, welding, building things and spending time with his family.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Charles Burdette.
Otis was a member of Woods Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Burdette are his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Sue Marshall Burdette of Young Harris; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kay and Dr. Laneau Hayes, and Betty Sharon Burdette, all of Young Harris; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Angie Kelley, and Michael and Wanda Kelley, all of Young Harris, and Richard and Karen Kelley of Hayesville; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Steve Powell of Summervill, N.C.; six grandchildren, Emma (Jonathan) Chenoweth, Jonathan (Sierra) Hayes, Nathaniel and Sara Hayes, KaTaceya (Jason) LaManna and Michael E. (Linzee) Taylor II; four great-grandchildren, Halli Wood, Brystal Williams, Zane LaManna and Cayden Millian; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, from the Mountain View Chapel in Blairsville, Ga., with the Rev. Michael Worthy officiating. Eulogies were given by Michael Kelley, John Kelley, Richard Kelley and Emma Chenoweth. Special music was presented by Hiawassee Opry Quartet.
Interment followed in Woods Grove Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jonathan and Nathaniel Hayes, Jonathan Chenoweth, Jason King, Douglas Burdette and Jack Kelley.
The family met with friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the funeral home.
