
Beauford Harold Carswell, 76, of Murphy, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at his residence.
He was a native of Gastonia, but lived in Murphy most of his life.
Harold served in the United States Army. He was a mason by trade. Harold enjoyed listening to gospel music and preaching on the radio, and visiting with the sick and shut-ins. Harold enjoyed spending time with his great grandsons, Riley and Jacob, who were the light of his life. Harold was a proud Christian.
He was the son of the late Edgar and Annie Belle Carswell. He also was preceded in death by a son, Junior Carswell; two sisters, Patricia Ann Carswell and Zennie Johnson; and two brothers, Everett Carswell and Earl Carswell.
Surviving are a daughter, Tina Anderson of Murphy; two sons, Richard Carswell and wife Sandy of Towns County, Ga., and Dewayne Carswell of Murphy; two sisters, Linda MacDonell of Murphy and Lucille Huggins of Gastonia; a brother, Charles Carswell and wife Margaret of Murphy; nine grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Lori Carswell, Ricky Carswell, Jordan Carswell, Lazarus Carswell, Kendall Sheffey, Autumn Sheffey and Joe Ray; two great-grandsons, Riley Dean Anderson and Jacob Martin Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at Hiawassee Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Beasley officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Andrews VFW Post 7620. Pallbearers will be Jacob Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Kendall Sheffey, Lazarus Carswell, Waylon Carswell and R.J. King. Honorary pallbearers will be David Carswell and Gary Carswell.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the
services.
