James Martin

    James Carl Martin, 77, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. James was the son of the late John Robert and Ora Anderson Martin.
    He had worked for MGM Brakes in quality control.
    James enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and gardening. James loved spending time with his family. He owned and operated his own sawmill.
    He was a member of New Martins Creek Baptist Church and Cherokee Masonic Lodge No. 146.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Rowland Martin; brother, Ralph Martin; and sister, Ann Ledford.
    He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Vespasian and Laurie Radford, both of Murphy; one stepdaughter, Dawn Flowers of Mineral Bluff, Ga.; one sister, Louella Woods of Surrency, Ga.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Aud Brown and Hoyt Brown will officiate. Burial will be in New Martins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with masonic rites conducted by Cherokee Lodge No. 146. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Barnard, William Vespasian III, Emory Mixon, Dennis Bishop, Tristen Flowers, Eli Flowers and Paige Brinke.
    The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weigarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
