Betty Jean Kephart

    Betty Jean Kephart, 78, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Murphy Rehabilitation & Nursing.
    She was born in Cabarrus County to the late “Z.S.” and Lena Mayfield Earwood.
    Betty was a member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Kephart; one sister, Katie Hale; and brothers, Andy, Johnny, Sammy, Charles and Gordon Earwood.
    She is survived by two sons, Eddie Joe Kephart and wife Karen and Bobby Glen Kephart and wife Tracy, all of Murphy; one daughter, Beth Kephart Hall and husband Kenny of Murphy; one brother, Billy Earwood and wife Jeanie; two sisters, Judy Bowlin and Dorothy Johnson and husband Billy Hugh; grandchildren, Jennifer Dickey, Tracy Helton, Jon Hall, Jessica Kephart, Erica Jenkins, Kendra Kephart and Tyler Kephart; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Aud Brown and Dr. Eddis Dockery officiated. Graveside service and burial were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jon Hall, Ryland Dickey, Jeremy Helton, Tyler Kephart, Donald Ray Johnson and Ashton Raxter. Honorary pallbearers were Braxton Jenkins and Karson Williams.
    The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 624, Murphy, NC 28906.
