Todd Jordan

    Todd Jordan, 32, of Andrews, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016, at his residence.
    He was a native Graham County, but had resided in Cherokee County.
    He was the son of Jeffrey Jordan and wife Della and Teresa D. Mason and husband Scott.
    Todd was a self-employed carpenter. He worked with his best friend, Eric Phillips.
    He was a graduate of Robbinsville High School 2002. Todd graduated from Tri-County Community College with an associate’s degree in applied science automotive technology.
    Todd enjoyed life, having fun and loved bringing a smile to your face.
    He was a member of Junaluska Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Chanteah Payne Jordan; one daughter, Keylie Jordan; one son, Kamdyn Jordan; one stepson, Cooper Orr; one sister, Misty Jordan Millsaps and husband Barry; one niece, Edy Millsaps; grandmothers, Beaulah Jordan and Mary Allen; grandfather, Robert Allen; one stepbrother, Blake Wiggins; and one stepsister, Heather Mason.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. The Revs. Patrick O’Dell and Paul Ray Morgan officiated. Music was provided by Marty and Tammy Hooper, and also by the band Forgiven and Jackie and Katie Trammell.
    Burial was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eric Phillips, Tim Cornwell, Jordy Sellers, Mark Suto, Joe Anderson, Colin Gillespie, Barry Millsaps and Dante Daniel. Honorary pallbearers were Cooper Orr, Kamdyn Jordan, Ben Riddle, Shane Allen and Jorge Martinez.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Junaluska Baptist Church, 4808 Junaluska Road, Andrews, NC 28901.

Sandra Peterson

    Sandra Kay Peterson, 75, of Murphy, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, following an extended illness.
    Sande was born April 15, 1941, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of the late Charles Patrick and Kathleen Poch Patrick.
    Before becoming ill, she was a Realtor with Remax Realty in Blairsville, Ga., for more than 11 years, and had served in the realty profession for over 20 years.
    Sande was a professional clown in her younger days and loved to make people laugh. She was known as a prankster to her friends, family and co-workers. She was a huge animal lover, especially her two dogs, Cookie and Candy.
    Sande was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
    She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and son-in-law, Amanda Ahrendsen and Dale Ahrendsen; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Marie Peterson.
    Sande attended World Harvest Church.
    Surviving Sande are her loving husband and best friend of 46 years, Gary Peterson of Murphy; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lorrie Ahrendsen of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kelly and Ross Coker of Murphy; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Dianna Peterson of Murphy; 10 grandchildren, Elise Coffey, Jonathon and Jay Ahrendsen, Josh, Justin, Joe and Cassie Coker, and Courtney, Andrew, Daniel and Addison Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Katelyn Coffey and Hawkins Coker; and many other relatives and friends also survive.
    A celebration of Sande’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, from the MountainView Chapel with the Rev. Garry Patrick officiating.
    The family will meet with friends from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the funeral home.
    Special music will be presented by Mindy Combs.
    In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Sande’s memory.

    Ruby Jane White, 76, of Andrews, passed away Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at her residence.
    Ruby was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County and the daughter of the late Wilburn and Nancy Cathy Owensby.She also was preceded in death by two infant sons, Arvil and William White; a granddaughter, Ruby Ford; a great-grandson, Michael Murphy; two brothers, Walter and Ricky Owensby; sisters, Rachel Roberson, Billie Rivers and Cora Rivers.
    Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. She enjoyed quilting and canning.
    She is survived by her sons, Dillard Dockery and wife Annie Mae, Jimmy White, Luke White, Terry White, Walter White and girlfriend Christina; daughter, Sue Ann Cody and husband Chuck; brothers, Andy and Harvey Owensby; sister, Helen Turner; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. Pastor Eric Byrd officiated. Burial was in Valley River Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter White, Ray Frasier, Dillard Dockery Jr., Travis Gibby, Adam Franklin and Dewayne Young. Honorary pallbearers were James Rogers, Crayton Rogers, Noah Siler, Brock Cross, Joshua Ford, Christopher Murphy, Jaydon Dockery, Brian Tomlier and Greg Siler.
    The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.

    Joseph Evans Moss Jenkins, 37, of Andrews, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at his residence.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He was the son of Barbara Jenkins of Sylva and the late Michael Phillips.
    Joseph was a U.S. Marine veteran. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and working on old cars.

    Eva Louise Mock Mott, 90, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, in Murphy.
    Mrs. Mott was born Oct. 17, 1926, to Ralph and Irma Mock of Valdosta, Ga.
    Mrs. Mott graduated from Valdosta High School in 1943 and on July 6, 1943, she married Pasco Mott, Brooker, Fla. Pasco and Louise then moved to Gainesville, Fla., making it their permanent home. In September of 2013, she moved to Murphy to live with her oldest daughter, Libby, until her passing.
    Mrs. Mott was wife “extraordinaire” to Pasco for 69 years of marriage. She was mother and matriarch of her family. During her long tenure as wife, she worked at the S & H Green Stamp Store, then she was employed by the Florida Press Association for several years. She and Pasco enjoyed traveling, their river house, their mountain cabin and always their family.
    Mrs. Mott was the epitome of grace and beauty, possessing a quiet strength that persevered through the difficult times in life. She had an unwavering love for God and her family. She has been called “Saint Louise,” Ms. Louise, Mama Louise, Weezie and has been described as a true “Southern Lady” ... her favorites being “Mom,” “Grandma” and “GG.”
    She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Pasco Mott of Gainesville, Fla.; her son, Larry Mott of Gainesville; grandson, Edward Pasco Thorley; brothers, James Mock and Alton Mock of Valdosta, Ga.; and sister, Anita Mock of Valdosta, Ga.
    She is survived by her son, Eric (Ann) Mott of Alachua, Fla.; her daughters, Libby (Tom) Thomas of Murphy, and Carol (Nick) Rhine of Alachua, Fla.; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Larry) Mott of Gainesville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and her sister and brother, Gwen and Charles Mock of Valdosta, Ga.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Dec. 30, in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main St., Gainesville, Fla., with Pastor Greg Magruder officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Central.
    A Celebration of Life will be held for her many friends and family in Murphy at a later date.
    In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to Good Shepherd, 125 Medical Park Lane, Suite H, Murphy, NC 28906.

    Patricia McCurry, 74, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at her residence.
    She was a native and longtime resident of Cherokee County, and the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Kimsey Coleman.
    Pat graduated Murphy High School in 1961. She also graduated from Blanton Business School. Pat retired from United Community Bank in the marketing department.
    She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Pat was a member of Murphy First Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McCurry.
    She is survived by her son, Mark McCurry and wife Page of Franklin; three stepchildren, Susie Dobbins, Charlie McCurry and Gene McCurry; one brother, Jack Coleman and wife Sue of Old Fort, Tenn.; two sisters, Mildred Pullium and husband Richard and Marilyn Hartness and husband Jerry; four grandchildren, Sloane, Quinn, Ian and Jackson McCurry; and one nephew, Charles Hartness and wife Elizabeth.
    Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec.  31, at Murphy First Baptist Church. Pastor Jimmy Tanner and Dr. Eddis Dockery will officiate. Music will be provided by Sue West. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at Green Hill Cemetery in Asheville. Pallbearers will be David Cowan, Geoff Whitaker, Charles Hartness, Adam Garrett, Ken Lance, John Bandy, Dan Anderson, Lee Truett and Scott Helton.
    The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Murphy First Baptist Church.

    Jo Anne “Fudgi” Killian Taylor, 71, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
    She was the daughter of the late Fred and Coy Killian of Murphy.
    Jo Anne was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County, member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and member of Hiawassee Baptist Church.
    She retired with more than 20 years of service from Hilton Office Supply.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Beth Taylor; a brother, Rex Killian; two sisters, Lavean and Glenda Sue Killian; and a nephew, Marty Anderson.
    She is survived by her son, Joey Taylor and daughter-n-law Kathy of Andrews; granddaughter, Kaitlin Taylor of Andrews; grandsons, Brad Thomas and wife Amanda and Brett Thomas, all of Murphy; great-granddaughter, Danika Passmore of Andrews; brothers, Grover Killian and wife Minnie, Jeff Killian and wife Tammy and Ted Killian; sisters, Anita Ellis and husband Robert and Ruth Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
    No services are planned at this time.

    Eulala Jane Hanks, 89, of Murphy, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center.
    She was a native of Cherokee County, but had lived in Dayton, Ohio, for 38 years.
    She was a homemaker and member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
    She was the daughter of the late James Baxter and Mary Jane Lunsford Davis. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.
    Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Harvey D. Hanks; three sons, Terry Hanks and wife Kathy of Pensacola, Fla., Mike Hanks and wife,Susan of Indianapolis, Ind., and Sam Hanks and wife Judy of Andrews; two sisters, Vista Belle Miller of Springfield, Ohio, and Alice Hyatt of Fairhope, Ala.; a brother, Rex Davis of Murphy; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment was in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry and Mike Hanks, Steve Allen, Steve Davis, Max O’Dell and Rex Davis.
    The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the service.

    Allison Leigh Kimbrough, born Aug. 7, 1947, in North Carolina, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, in Hilton Head, S.C.
    She was the daughter of the late Dr. Richard Walter Kimbrough (1925-92) of Marble  and Geraldine Ann Osborne (1925-2014) from New York.
    Leigh retired from the IRS and moved to Hilton Head to take care of her mother.  
    She is survived by her cousins, Lynda J. Wilson of Marietta, Ga., and Dwane Ray Wilson of Augusta, Ga.  
    Leigh was cremated and only God knows where she is.

    Shirley English Massey, 72, of Ball Ground, Ga., formerly of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
    Shirley had attended Murphy High School and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Murphy. She was a former member of the Murphy Garden Club and Murphy Junior League.
    Shirley was the business owner of The Upstairs Boutique in Murphy.
    Shirley retired from Siemens Energy and Automation and retired from the Cherokee County Commissioners office, Cherokee County, Ga.
    Shirley’s hobbies were reading, gardening, decorating and designing.
    Shirley was the daughter of the late Edward Melvin English and the late Azalee Price English, and wife of the late James (Jimmy) Ellis Massey. She was also preceded in death by a son, Wade Ellis Massey.
    Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dawn Massey Hoard and husband Calvin (Spencer) of Canton, Ga.; granddaughter, Ellen Hoard Floyd and husband David of Cartersville, Ga.; sister, Brenda English Stilwell and husband Robert of Murphy; brother, Jim English and wife Joyce of Murphy; niece, Melissa Stilwell of Murphy; nephews, Caleb English and wife Krysta and daughter Kynadee, Gavin English, and Levi English and wife Hannah and children Abigaile and Asher, all of Murphy; aunts, Aleen Keener of Murphy, Gail Lambert and husband Dean of Salisbury, Angie Kiser and husband Gene of Fortson, Ga., and Linda Kimble and husband Donnie of  Statesville; uncles, Dale Price and wife Betty of Murphy, William Edgar Price Jr. of Wilmington, and Rick Price and wife Carolyn of Midland; special cousins, Debra England and Brandy, Ben, Will and Amelia Joyner, all of Murphy, Harry Lee and Sandy Moore of Orlando, Fla., and Stephen and Julie Moore of Beaufort, S.C.
    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Revs. John Pope and Timothy Lee officiating. The inurnment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the services.

    Lorraine Williams of Vero Beach, Fla., passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at age 89.
    She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Williams, daughter Peggy Stokes and son-in-law David Stokes; her son, Keith Williams and daughter-in-law Heather Williams; her sisters, Priscilla Mitchell, Delphine Rogers, Corinn Chambless and Terri Beer; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  
    She was born and raised in Patchogue, N.Y., to Guy Richmond and Cora (Baker) Richmond.
    She was married to her late husband, Vernon S. Williams for 56 years.
    For the past six years, she was an active resident of Brookdale Vero Beach, where she loved to paint, read and play bingo.
    She will be remembered for her love of family, generous heart, sense of humor and her love of God.  
    A celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach, followed by a small reception.

    Mrs. Graham is survived by her son, Tim (Tina) Graham of Dallas, Ga.; sisters, Ruby Rushing of Charlotte and Lorene Elster of Athens, Ga.; grandson, Cory (Ashley) Wells of Dallas, Ga.; and great-grandchildren, Broc and Brooklyn Wells.
