Donald Phillip Martin, 91, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at his home.
    Mr. Martin was born Sept. 13, 1925, in Benham, Ky., to the late Oscar Lee Martin and Nancy Ellen Burkhardt Martin.
    A member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Gilley Martin;  and one son, Phillip Martin.
    Mr. Martin was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired as an electrical engineer after working many years for the TVA.
    He enjoyed working outside tending to his fruit trees and vegetable garden.
    Survivors include his daughter, Linda Nelson; two brothers, Jack Martin and Vernon Martin; three granddaughters, Melissa Burnette, Jennifer Loflin and Andrea Epperly; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and caretaker and friend, Amie Weaver.
    Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Beaster and Jerry Morrow officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers included Ty Burnette, Steve Orton, Zach Orton, Wade Anderson, Amie Weaver and Jerry Morrow.
    The family received friends at Mount Moriah Baptist Church from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15.

    Virginia Lanette Loving, 64, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at her residence.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, and the daughter of Willa Mae Loving and the late Lloyd Loving.
    Virginia was a member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church.
    She enjoyed reading, making candles, liked to sew, collect antiques, volunteering at Valley River Humane Society and was a big supporter of the NRA. She loved animals, especially her dog, Bella.
    Virginia was an accountant for Aegis Power Systems.
    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Loving.
    In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Megan Loving Anderson and husband David of Hayesville; sister, Carolyn Marcus Cooke and husband Garth of Murphy; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Eddis Dockery and Greg Swain officiated. Pallbearers were Max O’Dell, John Loving, Jeff Martin, Mike Hogsed, Kurt Marcus and Donald Graves. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Wanda Cornwell Reid, 79, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, at her residence.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. She was born to the late Beecher Cornwell and Dorothy Hampton Cornwell.
    Wanda was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy. She was involved in her husband Clyde Reid’s ministry until his death in 2000. She and Clyde also owned and operated Reid’s Place in Andrews for many years.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Clyde Reid; daughter, Liz Farley; and three brothers, Roger Cornwell, B.J. Cornwell and Larry Cornwell.
    Wanda is survived by three sons, Joey Reid and wife Sonya, Mike Reid and James Reid; four daughters, Teresa Bateman and husband Elridge, Susie Carrow and husband Bill, Mary Reid and Sheila Woods and husband Ronald; one brother, Gary Cornwell; two sisters, Vivian Shields and Ann Martin; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Richard Morrow officiated. Burial was in Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews. Pallbearers were Adam Stewart, Jacob Reid, Grey Reid, Ronald Woods, Doyle Woods and Dustin Barton.

    Winnie Ruth Hughes, 79, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
    She was a native of Vero Beach, Fla., and the daughter of the late Vernon and Ada Harris.
    Winnie was a homemaker. She was a member of Bellview United Methodist Church. Winnie was very active in her church, community and club work.
    She was very loving, caring and enjoyed social interaction with others. Winnie enjoyed spending time with her family.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Harris and Ralph Harris.
    She is survived by her daughters, Naomi Martin and husband Harry and Glenda Hughes, all of Murphy; three granddaughters, Holly M. Morgan and husband Marion, Coty Garcia and husband Carl and Winn Hibberts and husband Scott, all of Murphy; three great-grandsons, Sydney Hibberts, Desi Garcia and Jonas Garcia; three brothers, Ted Harris and wife Virginia of Live Oak, Fla., John Harris of Chatsworth, Ga., and Roger Harris and wife Pat of Cohutta Springs, Ga.; two sisters, Mabel Osborne and Linda Flood and husband Lamar, all of Chatsworth, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

    Catherine “Cathy” Elizabeth Stroh Brown Hallgren Davis, 67, of Florence, Ala., and formerly of Murphy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Glenwood Center in Florence. She left us with dignity and grace after a two-year battle with multiple respiratory diseases.
    Cathy was born on Sept. 13, 1949 – her father and daughter also were born on Sept. 13 – and raised in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she became a successful real estate agent. While living in Murphy, she worked with Blake Realty. She also lived in Asheville, Illinois, Marietta, Ga., and Virginia Beach, while working in a variety of positions. She especially enjoyed helping run restaurants, like the former La Fonda Mexicana in Florence.
    Generous with animals and humans alike, Cathy volunteered with Shoals PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), plus served as vice president of the Northwest Alabama Spay And Neuter Assistance Board of Directors. It brought her much joy to help find forever homes for the many animals she helped over the years. She treated her cats and dogs like family.
    Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Davis of St. Louis, and her father, E. Alan Stroh of West Palm Beach. Cathy lived life to the fullest, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Her sense of humor brightened all of our lives, and her fun-loving spirit and mischievous smile will be missed. She was of the Christian faith.
    She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Robby Lee Edwards Wernersback of Denver, Colo.; son, David Brown and wife Sharron of Murphy; daughter, Michelle Brown of Denver; sisters, Patty Goodmark of Florence, and Gail Smith and husband Randy of Denver; grandchildren, Ian Brown of Denver, Jessica Langston and husband Matt of Black Mountain, Noelle Brown and fiancé Ben Crowe of Asheville; and Alison Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla.; stepmother, Betty J. Stroh of Los Angeles; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom she adored.

    Noah O. Dockery, 80, of Kingston, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at his residence peacefully with his wife by his side.
    Mr. Dockery was a member of Harriman Church of God. He was retired from TVA after a career of 41 years as a map surveyor.  
    Mr. Dockery was a veteran of the U. S. Marines, achieving the rank of sergeant.  He was an avid golfer and a helper to his fellowman.
    He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Dockery and Willa Mae McDonald Dockery; and brother, Mack Dockery.
    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Hall Dockery of Kingston, Tenn.; son, James Dockery (Sonia) of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter,  Debbie Davis (Chris) of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brothers: Guy Dockery of Lebanon, Tenn., and Dennis Dockery (Marie) of Murphy; sister, Eva Decker (Billy) of Blairsville, Ga.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, Tenn. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ottis Ball officiating, along with the Rev. Jeff Blackman.
    Concluding services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at in Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, Tenn., with full-military honors by the U.S. Marines Honor Guard and Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.

    She was born to David Neal and the late Alice Ladd Neal.
    Teresa had been a librarian at Nantahala Regional Library. She loved reading and doing puzzles. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.
    In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bryant.
    In addition to her father, she is survived by her son, Shawn Bryant and wife Kathy of Topton; and two grandchildren, Hunter Bryant and Zack Bryant.

    She was a native of California. She had graduated from the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s degree, and graduated with highest distinction, Summa Cum Laude. Sherry had worked as an insurance claims administrator.
    She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church.
    Sherry enjoyed being a grandmother to her grandchildren.
    She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Chrystal Preckett Bresnin. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nicole Dundas.
    Surviving are her husband of 32 years, Jim Chitty; two daughters, Leticia Wetzel of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Delena Hawkins and husband Akim of Murphy; three sons, Thomas Dundas and wife Linda of Draper, Utah, Robert Dundas of Valdosta, Ga., and “Cap” Prince and wife Theresa of Woodland, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

    Janice Amos, 65, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Janice was the daughter of Charles Nathan and Maybel Elaine Kilpatrick Amos.
    She enjoyed going to thrift stores, Walmart and Burger King. She loved her baby dolls and especially her cat, Susie.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one niece, Patricia Hamilton; and brother-in-law, Arnold Everett (A.E.) White.
    She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Jordan, Betty Fischer, Ann Palmer, Sue Mann and Jean A. White; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

    Janice Amos, 65, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Janice was the daughter of Charles Nathan and Maybel Elaine Kilpatrick Amos.
    She enjoyed going to thrift stores, Walmart and Burger King. She loved her baby dolls and especially her cat, Susie.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one niece, Patricia Hamilton; and brother-in-law, Arnold Everett (A.E.) White.
    She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Jordan, Betty Fischer, Ann Palmer, Sue Mann and Jean A. White; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
    A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Ronnie Crisp officiated.

    Catherine “Cathy” Elizabeth Stroh Brown Hallgren Davis, 67, of Florence, Ala., and formerly of Murphy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Glenwood Center in Florence. She left us with dignity and grace after a two-year battle with multiple respiratory diseases.
    Cathy was born on Sept. 13, 1949 – her father and daughter also were born on Sept. 13 – and raised in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she became a successful real estate agent. While living in Murphy, she worked with Blake Realty. She also lived in Asheville, Illinois, Marietta, Ga., and Virginia Beach, while working in a variety of positions. She especially enjoyed helping run restaurants, like the former La Fonda Mexicana in Florence.
    Generous with animals and humans alike, Cathy volunteered with Shoals PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving), plus served as vice president of the Northwest Alabama Spay And Neuter Assistance Board of Directors. It brought her much joy to help find forever homes for the many animals she helped over the years. She treated her cats and dogs like family.
    Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Davis of St. Louis, and her father, E. Alan Stroh of West Palm Beach. Cathy lived life to the fullest, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Her sense of humor brightened all of our lives, and her fun-loving spirit and mischievous smile will be missed. She was of the Christian faith.
    She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Robby Lee Edwards Wernersback of Denver, Colo.; son, David Brown and wife Sharron of Murphy; daughter, Michelle Brown of Denver; sisters, Patty Goodmark of Florence, and Gail Smith and husband Randy of Denver; brother, John "Chip" Stroh of Florence; grandchildren, Ian Brown of Denver, Jessica Langston and husband Matt of Black Mountain, Noelle Brown and fiancé Ben Crowe of Asheville; and Alison Brown of St. Petersburg, Fla.; stepmother, Betty J. Stroh of Los Angeles; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all whom she adored.

    Cathy did not want a funeral service, although you’re encouraged to sleep in, then later go enjoy your favorite beverage while swapping stories about her. As per her wishes, family and friends will gather this spring to spread her ashes on the mountains she thought brought us closer to heaven. Until then, all she would want is for everyone to love each other, including our animal friends.

    Robert Lee Jones, 83, of the Anthony Branch Community in Robbinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at his residence.
    He was a native of Swain County and the son of the late Lee and Rosie Hughes Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Crisp Jones, who passed away on May 24, 2016; his brothers, Denny Jones and Steve Jones; and his sister, Mildred Hopkins.
    He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Connie and Larry Stalcup of Murphy, Carol and Ricky Southard of Robbinsville; son and his wife, Gary and Claudine Jones of Robbinsville; six grandchildren, Jason and Lonnie Stalcup, Candy, Danielle and Abby Jones and Devin Southard; two great-grandchildren, Blake Stalcup and Payton McCracken; and his sisters, Willa Jones and Dot Jones, both of Maryville, Tenn.; and Niece Orr of Robbinsville.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Sweetgum Baptist Church.  The Revs. Daniel Stewart and Mike Teem will officiate. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the church prior to the services.

    Edward Allen, 87, of Hayesville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at the Hayesville House.
    He was born in Queens County, N.Y., to the late Ernest and Anna Doherty Allen.
    Edward was a U.S. Marine veteran. He served during the Korean War.
    He was an assistant business manager for the Public School District. Edward grew up in Northern New Jersey and spent 23 years of his retirement in Murphy.
    He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Murphy.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
    He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Smith Allen; and one son, Robert Edward Allen of Spotswood, N.J.

    Mildred Faye Canipe Radford, 70, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
    She was born in Hickory, to the late Doc Otis and Mary Lou Canipe.
    Mildred lived her entire life in Murphy. She was a homemaker. Mildred loved sewing, fishing, cooking and teaching Sunday school. She attended Old Fashioned Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Canipe, Earnest Canipe, Fred Canipe and Ranson Canipe; and one sister, Pearl Guy.
    She is survived by her husband, Bobby Joe Radford; one son, Jesse Radford and wife April of Murphy; four daughters, Peggy Joe Patterson and husband Darryl of Hayesville, Glenda Clayton and husband Keith of Murphy, Lisa Hughes and husband Isaac of Murphy and Barbie Radford of Warne; four brothers, Charles Canipe, Ralph Canipe, Hazel Canipe and Clyde Canipe; two sisters, Helen Mashburn and Bonnie Elam; special friend, Laura Estremera; eight grandchildren, Wesley Whitener, Tyler Whitener, Caleb Hughes, Raven Caldwell, Laura Luther, Elesha Rider, McKayla Rider and Joshua Rider; four great-grandchildren, Logan Caldwell, Hadley Rider, Maverick Rider and Lilly Whitener.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Hoyt Brown and Nathan Rose will officiate. Burial will be in Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Isaac Hughes, Derek Luther, Zack Caldwell, Caleb Hughes, Wesley Whitener and David Mashburn.
