Roger W. Hathaway, 73, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in his home after a battle with cancer.
Roger was born in Springfield, Mass. He was the son of the late William Jr. and Jessie Ramsdell Hathaway.
He graduated from Barnstable High School in Cape Cod, Mass., after which he attended Brooks Institute of Photography in 1967.
He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps for four years. Roger served with the 3rd Recon Battalion in 1968 and 1969. He also was a member of the Marine Corps League Cherokee Detachment No. 1011.
Roger lived in New Port Richey, Fla., for 32 years. He was a service technician for a pest control company for 20 years. Then he opened the Town and Country Photography Studio in Tampa, Fla.
Roger retired in 2002 and moved to Murphy.
Roger attended Murphy Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Cherokee County Senior Games and Silver Arts from 2012-17. He also was a member of the Valley River Arts Guild.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Gwen Hathaway; a sister, Peggy Severini of Denver, Colo.; and a niece and two nephews.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, April 7, at Murphy Presbyterian Church. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with the service to follow at 10:30 a.m., led by the Rev. Bill Jennings. Full military honors will be presented by the Marine Corps League Cherokee Detachment No. 1011. Following the service, the ladies of the church will provide a luncheon for family and friends.

organizations.
