Charles Anderson

    Mr. Charles Emory Anderson, age 97 of Murphy passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
     He was born on Sept. 28, 1921 in Suches, to the late Alonzo Milton Anderson and Addie Garland Anderson. From 1943-1945 he served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he met his beautiful wife Pauline Juanita Odom Anderson in Akron, Ohio. They returned to Culberson, to take care of the family farm. Emory worked hard with the family helping with the chickens. 
     In 1967 he opened Anderson Chevrolet in Blue Ridge, Ga. Emory was on the board of directors of Citizens Bank in Murphy. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
     Emory was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Odom Anderson; his parents; brothers, Elbert, George and Willard Anderson; and sisters, Myrtle Anderson, Nora Anderson, Gertie Shields and Marie Anderson.
     He is survived by one daughter, Diana Anderson Hogan and husband Thomas (Tom) of Chatsworth, Ga.,; one son, Gary Anderson and wife Judy Owenby of Murphy; four grandchildren, Charles Hogan of Ringgold, Ga., Cynthia Stanfield of Chatsworth, Andrea Harris of Fort Worth, Texas and Russell Anderson of Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Breanna, Callie and Katie Rose Stanfield all of Chatsworth and Aniston Grace and Anderson Michael Harris both of Fort Worth, Texas.
     Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church. The Revs. Gerald Derreberry and Johnny Foster officiated. Music was provided by Matthew Roach and Chris Rumfelt.
    Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC.
    The military served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Forest Johnson, Jerry Curtis, Johnny Shields, Doug Cheeks, Sam Shields and Steve Forrister.
     The family received friends from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home where the body will remain until being placed in the church one hour prior to the service hour.
      In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Lois Menasian, 6 Deweese Street Murphy, NC 28906.
