Howard Johnson

    Howard “Pop” Johnson, 78, of Murphy, went to be with the Lord the evening of Sunday, June 26, 2016, after an extended illness surrounded by family and loved ones.
    He was a native of Cherokee County, and the son of the late Edgar Johnson and Marie Clark Johnson Bolt.
    Howard enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He also loved the outdoors and cooking.
    Howard worked for MGM Brakes for 45 years as a shipping clerk.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan, from a previous marriage; and two sisters, Alwayne and Liz.
    He is survived by his wife, Pat Johnson; one son, Greg and his wife, Kelly; one stepdaughter, Kimberly Rose Roach; three granddaughters, Emily, Natalie and Abby; and two sisters, Billie and Judy.
    Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Ned Golden officiated. Music was provided by Brenda Leek and Diane Russell. Burial was held Thursday, June 30, in the Ogreeta Cemetery.
    The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ogreeta Cemetery Fund, 55 Crystal Springs Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
