
James Wendell Clark, 70, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, while visiting his cabin in Murphy. Jim, a native of Anniston, Ala., was a long-time resident of Mobile, Ala.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Burton Clark and Anne Hall Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Farnell Clark; daughter, Catherine “Katie” Clark-Williams, son-in-law Jason Daniel Williams, and grandchildren John and Althea Clark-Williams, of Swannanoa; brother, Charles Burton Clark (Donna) of Atlanta, Ga.; his faithful furry companion, Jaydee; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Beth Farnell Grover (Doug) of Downers Grove, Ill., Barbara Farnell Milstead (Herb) of Montevallo, Ala., and Douglas N. Farnell (Jane) of Semmes, Ala.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jim graduated from Anniston High School and Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., and was retired from the U.S. Treasury Department.
He was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, South Alabama British Car Club and Scottish Society of Mobile, and was a staunch supporter of the ASPCA and environmental causes.
Jim made many happy visits to his and Tricia’s second home, their cabin in Murphy, where they had many dear friends.
While in Murphy, Jim was active in Episcopal Church of the Messiah and Friends of Murphy Library. He was a strong supporter of local animal rescue efforts, and he and his dog, Jaydee, were well-known in the local community.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 29, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Mobile. One of the speakers summed up Jim’s life well when he stated, “In every respect, Jim Clark was a scholar’s scholar, a gentleman’s gentleman, a friend’s friend, and a neighbor’s neighbor.”
Memorials may be made in Jim’s honor to Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Murphy or the ASPCA.
