Vergal Dye

    Vergal James Dye, 88, of Brasstown, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his residence.
    He was the son of Sam and Lille Barnes Dye. He was a truck driver for the pallet industry.
    Vergal enjoyed hunting, gardening, collecting knives, playing guitar, farming and gospel music. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
    Vergal also was a member of Pinelog Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special granddaughter, Torey Conley; sons, Douglas and Carlos Dye; daughter, Carolyn Chambers; brothers, Burl, Verlin and Vaughn Dye; and sisters, Norma and Gertrude Dye, Mercie Owenby and Othena Dockery.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary Dye; stepson, Greg Barton; daughter, Connie Hughes; stepdaughter, Tamara Conley and husband Steve; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Aud Brown and Hoyt Brown officiated. The graveside service was officiated by the Rev. Kevin Miller. Pallbearers were Josh Gibson, Rondal Lovingood, Jason Dye, Michael Langefield, Eugene “Blue” Hughes and David Owens. Honorary pallbearers were Max Payne, Max Reece, Jerry Hunsucker, Rodney Dye and Bobby Hughes. Burial was in Pinelog Baptist Church Cemetery.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
