James Lewis Simonds, 92, of Blue Ridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Abernathy Simonds; son, Byron Simonds and his wife, Kyle, of Murfreesboro; son, Lamar Simonds of Ellijay, Ga.; sister Peggy Simonds Lewis of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren, Morgan, Sheldon and Tyler Simonds, and Barrett Simonds Chandler and husband Josh; great-grandchildren, Katie Chandler and Josh Chandler Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life took place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Epworth First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers were William McClure, Harvey Franks, Ronnie Kimsey, Jimmy Foster, Sam Arthur and James Abernathy. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Epworth First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Epworth Community Club Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements were entrusted to Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville, Ga.
