Melba Geraldine “Jerry” Watkins Hughes, 82, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Ga.
Mrs. Hughes was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Blairsville, Ga., to the late Burl Watkins and the late Odessa Davenport Watkins.
A member of Notla Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Willie Hughes; grandson, Jason Dockery; and her three sisters.
Jerry enjoyed gardening, quilting and going to flea markets in her spare time.
Survivors include daughters, Stella Timpson, Judy Jackson, Debbie Dockery and Sue Tritt; one son, Roger Hughes; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy, with the Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Music was provided by Julie Payne and Martha Davenport. Interment followed in Notla Baptist Church Cemetery. The gentlemen serving as pallbearers were Scott Payne, Mark Rollo, Andy Allen, J.L. Davenport, Albert Davenport and Floyd Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were Charles King, Tommy King, Larry Hughes and Ralph Hughes.
The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy.
Arrangements were entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
