    Jackie DeHart, 61, born Dec. 27, 1954, in High Point, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016. He was a resident of Murphy and Hayesville for 40 years.
    He is the son of the late William Earl DeHart and Mary DeHart. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy DeHart; son-in-law, Joseph Milligan; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Stephens.
    Surviving are his wife, Nancy DeHart; two children, Jackie DeHart Jr. and wife Katrina; and Cynthia Hull and husband David; eight grandchildren, Logan Bear, Kenny DeHart, Dylan DeHart, Jada DeHart, Zachary Milligan, Sandra Milligan, Mollie Hull and Timothy Hull; two sisters,
Shirley Maney and husband Cecil, and Margaret Stephens; and sister-in-law, Lynn DeHart; and several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and friends who loved him dearly.
    Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Tusquittee. Pastors Clark Moss and Matt Mull will officiate. His youngest granddaughter, Mollie Hull, will be singing.
    In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations for expenses.

    Hubert Carter, 84, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at his residence.
    Hubert was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He was a son of the late Thomas and Hettie Dockery Carter. Hubert also was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Dockery, Nellie McDonald and Mildred Farmer.
    Hubert was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a truck driver and had worked for Easley’s Pallet Plant.
    Hubert loved his family, especially taking his grandkids fishing.
    Hubert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lura Carter; sons, the Rev. Edward Carter and wife Gail, and Charles Carter and wife Shelia, all of Murphy; brother, Junior Carter of Murphy; sister, Margie Curtis of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Carter, Amanda Carter Cornett, Kevin Carter, Brian Carter, Brian Griffin and Brittany Griffin; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held be at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Rev. Edward Carter officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Music was provided by the church choir. Pallbearers were Kevin, Brian, Michael, Jacob and Isaac Carter, and Phillip Cornett. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Dockery, Brian Griffin and Max Shipman.
    The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
    The family would like to thank all the staff, doctors and nurses at Murphy Medical Center and Good Shepherd for their care and compassion during our time of need.

    Zelda Gentry, 99, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.
    Mrs. Gentry was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Cherokee County to the late Festus Davis and the late Ella Wilson Davis. 
    A member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her father, Festus Davis; mother, Ella Wilson Davis; husband, Burton Gentry; daughter, Jane P. Gentry; brothers, Wiley Davis, Verl Davis, Jim Davis, Paul Davis, Void Davis and Howard Davis; sisters, Cordie Davis Conner, Callie Gentry and Wilda Farner; and grandson, Jeffrey Gentry.
    Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Berlon (Shirley) Gentry; son and daughter-in-law, Jack (Carole) Gentry; son and daughter-in-law, Melvin (Ruthie) Gentry;  daughter and son-in-law, Marie (Dennis) Dockery; son, Wayne P. Gentry; son, David (Kathy) Gentry; brothers, Vernon Davis and Loren Davis; sister, Wanda Kephart; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Hanging Dog Baptist Church with the Rev. Ned Golden officiating. Music was by the Golden Sisters. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Aaron Gentry, Christian Gentry, Christopher Carrigan,  Jerry Gentry,  Joey Gentry and Dennis Dockery.
    Arrangements were entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.

    Timothy Richard Roberson, 52, of Hayesville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Murphy Medical Center.
    He was a native of Cherokee County, and the son of the Rev. Richard Roberson and Doris Stiles Roberson.
    He was director of Truett Baptist Camp in Hayesville. Timothy loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
    In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sharon Chastain Roberson; one daughter, Adrian Queen and husband Nick of Murphy;  one brother, Kevin Roberson and wife Lisa of Pine Mountain, Ga.; two grandchildren, Stone Queen and Rylee Queen; one nephew, Nick Roberson; and several cousins.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. John Butler, David Feathers and Paul Ray Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Nick Roberson, Matt Burrell, Daniel Burrell, Gerald Chastain, Jerry Oliver, Nathan Harbin, Marty Jones and Tim Chastain. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Barnett, Chad McNabb and his cousins.

Mary Nichols

    Mary Nell Powers Nichols, 72, of Andrews, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016.
    A native and lifetime resident of Andrews, she was the daughter of the late Grady V. Powers and Mary Jo Tatham Powers.
    Mary Nell was a retired teacher assistant at Andrews Elementary School. She was on staff for 18 years. Mary Nell loved her job and especially loved all her students.
    Since retirement, she has been active with the Andrews United Methodist Women’s Group, served faithfully at The Welcome Table, delivered meals with Meals on Wheels, and was an active member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Andrews Chapter No. 15. Mary Nell loved Andrews United Methodist Church and had much love and appreciation for the Rev. Mary Brown.
    In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Frederick M. Powers.
    She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gene A. “Pete” Nichols of the home; daughter, Kim Palmer and husband Jeff of Asheville; son, Mark Nichols and wife Tammy of Greenville, S.C.; sister, Darlene Waldroup of Westminster, S.C. She is also survived by four grandchildren who were the special “gems” of her life, Mary Christina Palmer of Asheville, Jeffery Jack Palmer II of Asheville, Randi Renay Graybeal of Nashville, Tenn., and Casey Graybeal of Chattanooga, Tenn. She had many nieces and nephews and is survived by special niece, Debbie Powers Hicks, husband W. Daniel Hicks Jr. and son William Trey Hicks III.
    The family will receive friends and family for visitation from 1-2:50 p.m Sunday, Aug. 21, at United Methodist Church in Andrews. The service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Brown officiating. A private graveside service for family will be held in Valleytown Cemetery.

    Harry Scott Nichols, 82, of Andrews, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016.
    He was born in the year of our Lord on Dec. 1, 1933, in Andrews to the late Adam Nichols and the late Virginia Wilson Nichols.
    He was a member of First Baptist Church of Andrews. He lived and attended school in Andrews.
    He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1951, from which he received an honorable discharge on Sept. 2, 1954.
    He worked and retired as a bank courier for United Community Bank.
    Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Kathryn Fodero Nichols; son, Jamie Adam Nichols and wife Davann Hubbard Nichols; grandchildren, Anthony Nichols, Ashlie Nichols; step grandchildren, Slade and wife Gina Hubbard, their sons, David and Reid, and Kristy and husband Denny Rutan and their daughter, Piper; daughter, Angeline Nichols Phillips and husband Robin Phillips, grandson, Waylan Scott Stalcup and wife Brandy Pace Stalcup; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Stalcup. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Nichols Wood; brother, Gene Pete Nichols; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
    May our loved one “Rest in Peace.”
    Private services will be held at Valleytown Cemetery with children and immediate family.
    Donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Andrews to the general fund.

    Peggy T. Brammer, 88, of Murphy, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Life Care of Copper Basin in Ducktown, Tenn.
    A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late J.C. “Jack” Summers and the late J. Russell Brammer, and daughter of Rev. J.H. Trogdon and Zella Leona Steele Trogdon, both deceased.
    She was a member of Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy, where she also was a member of United Methodist Women and a former Sunday school superintendent.
    She is survived by a niece, Georgette Howerton and husband Ronald of Atlanta, Ga., along with several other nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her first and second husbands and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by a brother, French Trogdon; and a sister, Polly Claytor.
    A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Gibsonville City Cemetery with the Rev. James L. Rosser.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date at Ranger United Methodist Church in Murphy.
