Parker Burgess

    Parker D. Burgess, 69 of Marble, arrived in glory at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2017.
    A native of Duluth, Ga., he is survived by his wife of 49 years, Glenda Ruth; sons, Clint Burgess and wife Terri Gage, Joshua Burgess and one grandson, Dwayne; his mother, Nathalie Goolsby Burgess; and one sister, Hilda Tumlin and husband Raymond; brother-in-law, Perry LaFever and wife Janie; and sister-in-law, Brenda Artt and husband John; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Shelia T. Burgess; his father-in-law, Charlie LaFever, and mother-in-law, Lula LaFever; and one brother-in-law, Clifford LaFever.
    Parker was founder and president of Souls for Christ doing outreach work in North Dakota on the Sioux Indian Reservation as well as pastor of Hyatts Creek Baptist Church in Marble for more than 34 years.
    Funeral services weree held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Dr. Clint Kerns, Dr. Lamoyne Sharpe, Pastor Louis Grant and Pastor Harvey Ware officiated. Burial was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dewey Lamar Woodall, Ronnie Burgess, Terrance Goolsby, Jack Payne, Gary Pollock Jr., Joshua Morgan, Louis Grant and Ray Ellis. Honorary pallbearers were Pastor Kenneth Cofer, Pastor Harvey Ware, Tommy Williams, Charlie Morgan, Lee Sanders and Colton Morgan.
    The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hyatts Creek Baptist Church, 100 Hyatts Creek Church Road, Marble, NC 28905, or to The Gideon’s International (for King James Bible distribution), P.O. Box 624, Murphy, NC 28906.

    Amanda Jean Newton Reynolds, 39, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center.
    She was born in Thomasville to the late Jean Lovingood Newton and Therman Newton and wife Jody of Murphy.
    Amanda was a homemaker. She was a member of Wilscott Baptist Church.
    In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Zavier Thompson.
    In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Jamie Reynolds; three brothers, Jason Newton, Jamie Newton and wife Natasha, Bronson Newton and wife Brittany, and Scotty Newton; one sister, April Hughes and husband David; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Billy Rhodes, John Horton and Andy Williams officiated. Burial was in Shooting Creek Memorial Gardens in Hayesville. Pallbearers were Randal Lovingood, Ronald Ware, Steve Tanner, Jared Gurley, Preston Cabe and Steve Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Newton, Jamie Newton, Bronson Newton, Tommy Howard and Jake Rhodes.
    The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.

    Angela Yvonne Worley, 42, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
    She was born in Lee County, Fla., to Billy and Mary Evelyn Worley, but lived in Murphy most all of her life.
    She was of the Baptist faith. Angela loved being with family, reading, shopping, watching Forensic Files on TV and horror movies, stuffed animals and her cats.
    She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Brittany Nicole Wall.
    In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Billy Joe Worley.
    There will be a private memorial service held by the family.

    Laura Louise Lewis Rollins, 56, of Murphy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at her home. 
    She was born Dec. 3, 1960, in Illinois, and was the youngest of eight children.
    She proudly served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a nurse in her civilian life.
    Laura was a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Church and enjoyed baking and cooking, hunting, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
    Surviving are her devoted spouse, Dusty Lynn Rollins; daughter, Amanda Tucker of Dallas, Texas; son, Jerry Covington of Norfolk, Va.; stepdaughter, Terrah Linden of Mauldin, S.C.; stepsons, Joshua Rollins of Spartanburg, S.C., and Nathan James of Orlando, Fla.; and grandchildren, Blaine, Rylin, Corinne, Lauryn, Wyatt, Sebastian, Chloe, Sarrah, Andrew and Halie.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date.

    Doris Gulley, 86, of Murphy, passed away Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Hayesville House.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Doris was the daughter of the late William “Willie” and Lou Ella Henson Givens.
    She was a case worker for the Cherokee County Department of Social Services.
    Doris was a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Gulley, and daughter, Karen Gulley.
    She is is survived by one brother, Jimmy Givens and wife Carol of Balsam; three grandchildren, Dustin McClure, Jon McClure and wife Kary and Amanda McClure; three great-grandchildren, Tyler McClure, Ellie McClure and Emree McClure; and niece, Lynn Sheean and husband Don.
    A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in the Peachtree community.

    William “Bill” Bailey Kephart, 97, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.
    He was native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Bill was the son of the late Henry and Dovie Dockery Kephart.
    He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Bill was a Mason. He was a member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Sheridan Kephart, Oscar Kephart, Earl Kephart and Bass Kephart.
    He is survived by his wife, June Kephart; two sons, Robert Kephart and wife Reba, and Glenn Kephart and wife Bernice; one daughter, Sonya Kephart; three brothers, Otis Kephart, Ralph Kephart and Russell Kephart; one sister, Mae Loving; and three grandchildren, Dylan Kephart and wife Sabrina, Wesley Kephart and Emily Kephart.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Rev. Mitchell Shields and Dr. Eddis Dockery officiated. Burial was in Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Jeffery “Jeff” Dale Green  passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017.
    Jeff was born Nov. 28, 1965, to the late Rita Moss Ellis and Raymond Green. He was a native of Cherokee County.
    Jeff grew up in Andrews, where he graduated from Andrews High School in 1984.
    Jeff worked at OMC and Coats America for several years before moving to Orlando, Fla., where he lived the last few years. He was of the Baptist faith.
    Jeff is survived by his stepfather, Jackie Ellis, who raised and loved him as his own son since toddler age; brothers, James Ellis and Scott Green and wife Deborah; sister, Jackie Anderson and husband Russell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
    A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
    In lieu of flowers or donations, the family ask that you take a moment to hug your parent, child, friend and remember how blessed we are. Time waits for no one.

    Martin Curtis Daves, 82, of Andrews, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Valley View Care Center in Andrews.
    He was born in Macon County to the late Earlie Ervin and Florence Evelyn Waters Daves.
    Martin retired from Ford Motor Co. in Sterling Heights, Mich., in 1993 as a quality controller with 40 years of service. He moved back to the area in 1994 and was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church.
    Martin enjoyed working in his garden, hunting, fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed children and puppies.
    Martin was a member of Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529 AF&AM, and he also was a Shriner.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Daves.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Reba Jean Mosteller Daves; one son, Jeffrey S. Daves of South Lyon, Mich.; one daughter, Jennifer Shepherd and husband Doak of Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Syrtta Owenby and husband Jerry of Andrews; and nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews. Pastor Eric Byrd and the Rev. S.J. Waters officiated. Masonic rites were conducted by Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529 AF&AM. Burial was in Valleytown Cemetery.
    The family receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Townson-Rose Chapel in Andrews.

    Bill William Suddereth, 67, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in Hayesville.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Bill was the son of the late Oliver and Margie Lloyd Sudderth.
    Bill worked in construction and also at Walmart in Murphy. He enjoyed NASCAR and watching Dale Earnhardt Sr. Bill also enjoyed playing softball, baseball and watching the Green Bay Packers. He loved spending time with family and friends.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vanessa Patterson, and one brother, Steve Sudderth.
    He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet Suddereth; two sons, Jermale Suddereth and Jonathan Moreland; one daughter, Shannon Suddereth; one sister, Betty Sudderth; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Minister Holland and Minister Carter will officiate.

    Bill William Sudderth, 67, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in Hayesville.

    Mark Dwayne Golden, 53, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, in Mineral Bluff, Ga.
    He was born at Fort Jackson, S.C., to John L. Golden and the late Peggy J. Golden. He lived most of his life in Murphy.
    Mark was a 1982 graduate of Hiwassee Dam High School and took several college courses at Western Carolina University. He also completed ROTC basic camp at Fort Knox, Ky., in 1985.
    Growing up, Mark was very outgoing and enjoyed various sports and outdoor activities such as basketball, baseball, golf and tennis. He was an accomplished baseball pitcher at Hiwassee Dam High School. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching and going to NASCAR races with his brother, Mitchell.
    Mark was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was passionate about all animals, especially his dogs.
    Mark worked as a manager in retail for most of his life. He loved working with his sister, Mona, at Papa’s Pizza in Murphy.
    Mark is survived by his father, John L. Golden of Murphy; a son, Bryan Golden of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Brittney Norton and son-in-law, Joshua Norton, of Warner Robins, Ga.; and one grandchild, Reed Norton, also of Warner Robins, Ga. He also is survived by a brother, Mitchell Golden and sister-in-law, Sheila Golden, and a sister, Mona Golden, all of Murphy; as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
    Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy J. Golden.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Tim Dickey and Ronnie Crisp officiated. Burial was in Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
    The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.

    Melba Geraldine “Jerry” Watkins Hughes, 82, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Ga.  
    Mrs. Hughes was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Blairsville, Ga., to the late Burl Watkins and the late Odessa Davenport Watkins.  
    A member of Notla Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Willie Hughes; grandson, Jason Dockery; and her three sisters.
    Jerry enjoyed gardening, quilting and going to flea markets in her spare time.
    Survivors include daughters, Stella Timpson, Judy Jackson, Debbie Dockery and Sue Tritt; one son, Roger Hughes; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy, with the Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Music was provided by Julie Payne and Martha Davenport. Interment followed in Notla Baptist Church Cemetery. The gentlemen serving as pallbearers were Scott Payne, Mark Rollo, Andy Allen, J.L. Davenport, Albert Davenport and Floyd Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were Charles King, Tommy King, Larry Hughes and Ralph Hughes.
    The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy.
    Arrangements were entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy.
