
John “Ray” Clayton went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 25, 2018, in Akron, Ohio. He was 77 years young.
John was born Sept. 10, 1940, in Brasstown and attended Hayesville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-62.
John married the love of his life, Pamela J. West, on Oct. 21, 1972, and spent 45 loving years together.
He spent 38 years at Goodyear and retired in 1999.
Many days, you could find John outdoors hunting or enjoying his cabin. He also enjoyed traveling and selling at craft shows.
John served faithfully at Millheim Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jewel Clayton of Brasstown.
He is survived by his spouse, Pamela J. Clayton of Akron; children, Jeff Clayton of Akron, and Vanessa (Ryan) Flinn of North Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Clayton and Crosby Flinn of North Canton, Ohio; brother, James Rex (Shirley) Clayton of Zephyrhills, Fla.; sister, Tommie Lou Chitty of Shreveport, La.; brother-in-law, Randy (Carolyn) West of Sophia, N.C.; special friend, Ron Anderson and family of Akron; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Millheim Baptist Church, 2661 Hayne Road, Akron, OH 44312. The funeral service will follow. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Woods Cemetery, 3170 Edison Street N.W., Uniontown, Ohio.
