Darlene McCoy Hemphill, 57, of Blairsville, Ga., went to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, June 24, 2018, with her husband and children by her side.
Mrs. Hemphill was originally from Murphy, where she was raised, and was a long-time resident of Blairsville, where she and her husband raised a family of their own.
She was a proud member of Revival Baptist Church of Blairsville for more than 25 years and served there until the end of her fight with pancreatic cancer. After Darlene accepted Christ as her Savior in August 1988, she remained a constant, unmovable light on a hill for all who knew her.
Darlene, known as “Darlin” to some, graced all she met with her quiet but playful disposition, steadfastness for her Savior, and never-ending generosity. While her immediate family benefited the most from her joyful, kind and loving spirit – as well as her biscuit making – there is no doubt that the same spirit was felt by all those who crossed her path. Her life will forever be a testament to her love for Christ, her family and others.
Family members left to treasure her memory are her husband of 37 years, David Hemphill; son, Travis Hemphill; daughter and son-in-law, Lacey Hemphill Rothe and Jayson Rothe; father and mother, J.C. McCoy and Mary Alice McCoy; brothers, Dennis McCoy and wife Trisha, and Johnny McCoy; Jan McCoy and his wife, Tamara; mother-in-law, Eva Hemphill; many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hemphill were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Revival Baptist Church with the Revs. Ray Brown, Tommy Seay, Hoyt Brown and Tim Dickey officiating. The body lie in-state at the church starting at 1 p.m. before the funeral began.
Burial was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Ray Morgan officiating. Special music was presented by the Rev. Jack Cochran and Heather Henderson. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Logan Henderson, Kendon Hemphill, Matthew Thomas, Jake McCoy, Chris Keys and Timmy Chastain. Serving as honorary escort to the family were the following gentlemen: Bruce Hemphill, Lamar Chastain and Gabriel McCoy.
The family met with friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.
Memorial donations may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1641 Old Gum Log Road, Blairsville, GA 30512.
